New York: Premiere of “Off and Running” Friday

January 28th, 2010 · 1 Comment

A friend tipped me off to this new independent film that’s premiering at the IFC Center in New York tomorrow. It’s about a young adopted African American girl with white Jewish lesbian parents who decides to contact her birth mother. It explores lots of intertwining identities–all through the lens of a young woman–and it’s directed by Nicole Opper, who’s just 30 and sounds bad-ass.

It only runs for one week, so don’t sleep. Check out the trailer:

I can’t wait to see this film. It’s so wonderful to see and hear about the real life experiences of a person adopted, being in a jewish household but not born jewish, being raised by lesbians, being african amierican…with all the real challenges, love, bonds, isolation, confusion, joy, goals and gratitude. Be seen and loved!
