March 22nd, 2010 · 1 Comment

The Kitchen Sisters–aka Davia Nelson and Nikki Silva–are launching a new NPR series today that explores the hidden world of girls. The series will highlight “stories of coming of age, rituals and rites of passage, secet identities—of women who crossed a line, blazed a trail, changed the tide.” The photo above is of Fadimata Walett Oumar, left, leader of the band Tartit from the Tombouctou Region of Mali, who talks about the life of the nomadic Taureg people, coming of age and attitudes about love and divorce.Listen to her story here.

The series begins today on NPR’s Morning Edition and All Things Considered. Learn more about the series and how to contribute here, and listen to more women’s stories here.
